A unitary government is based on the notions of centralization and concentration of political authority and power at a single center which forms the peak of the political edifice. The center exercises sway over the entire length and breadth of the territory under its jurisdiction and have the sole responsibility to take political decisions and implement policy initiatives. The other levels of government if any exist at the sole discretion of the central government deriving all their power from the latter.
